Kami Rita Sherpa scales Mt Everest 23 times

A 49-year-old Sherpa climber stood atop the world’s highest mountain for the 23rd time today becoming the only mountaineer in the world to hold the record for most summits on Mt Everest.

According to Mingma Sherpa, Company Chairman at Seven Summit Treks, Kami Rita Sherpa from Thame village of Solukhumbu district successfully climbed Mt Everest at around 7:50 am from Nepal side breaking his own record for most summits on the roof of the world. Last year, Sherpa climbed Mt Everest for the 22nd time.



“Kami Rita along with Nima Wangdi Sherpa from the Seven Summit Treks expedition has scripted history on the roof of the world,” Sherpa told THT.
According to the base camp officials, Kami Rita started his summit push from Camp IV on Tuesday night and reached the summit point on Wednesday morning.

Kami Rita has already climbed most of the peaks above 8,000 m including  K2, Cho-oyu, Lhoste and Annapurna among others. “The climbers have now been descending to the lower camps safely.”
