Rukum West locals grappling with water shortage

Kathmandu , June 3rd 2019

A shortage of drinking water — after the heavy hailstorm last Saturday causing damages to four drinking water projects — has largely affected the normal life at Triveni Rural Municipality-1 of Rukum West.

As many as 258 households and 600 students of the schools whose pipelines were washed away by the rain are bearing the brunt of the water shortage.

The heavy rain damaged Samadhunga Drinking Water Project, Bhattachhare Drinking Water Project, Balle Drinking Water Project, and Kharkha Drinking Water Project, said ward member Laxman Oli.

The rain washed away water tanks and pipelines. People of three villages and students of Dibya Chachhu Secondary School have been largely affected as a result of the disruption in water supply.

The situation is expected to worsen if timely intervention is not carried out. Though there are a few sources of water in the villages, they are not enough to meet the demand.
